I ordered a few of The Ordinary’s products for the first time a few years ago. I’ve been seeing the brand all over social media for the past few years. And almost everyone I know has purchased at least one of their products, either the Buffet or their Caffeine Solution. I decided to try one of the not-so-popular ones – The Ordinary Pycnogenol 5%.
Something that I liked about this brand is the simple packaging and affordable prices. The Ordinary bases its products on active ingredients and is ideal for people who are willing to spend some time researching the ingredients and learning the science behind skincare. Then names like niacinamide, squalane, and AHA + BHA won’t sound so foreign.
The Ordinary Pycnogenol 5% is free of artificial colors and scents, and the deep red color is natural from the pycnogenol. It comes in a smaller bottle than all the rest of the brand’s products, but you only need a few drops, so it lasts for a while. I used 4-5 drops because my skin is extra dry, and the product lasted me for more than a month.
WHAT IS PYCNOGENOL?
Pycnogenol is a natural plant derived from the bark of maritime pine trees that grow in the southwest of France. Fancy, right? It contains ingredients that help rejuvenate and nourish the skin from the inside out.
WHEN & HOW I USE IT:
It can be applied alone or after water-based serums before oils or heavier creams. I also like to mix 2-3 drops of The Ordinary Pycnogenol with my moisturizer and use it on my face and neck.
Use once or twice a day. Since I have dry skin, I use it twice a day. In the morning, I apply it along with my Vitamin C serum, and in the evening, after any water-based serum, I use.
MY THOUGHTS ON THE ORDINARY PYCNOGENOL:
The Ordinary Pycnogenol serum is nourishing and hydrating, which makes it ideal for dehydrated skin. Furthermore, because it’s an antioxidant, it helps brighten the skin and minimize fine lines and wrinkles.
I just finished my first bottle, and I enjoyed the product very much. It has a velvety, soft texture that absorbs quickly. When I apply it on, it looks like a mixture of oil and serum without feeling or looking greasy on the face. I also like that I can use it along with my Vitamin C serum, which gives me a powerful boost of antioxidants. It does a great job of nourishing and moisturizing the skin while leaving it plump and with less visible pores.
The dark red color won’t stain skin, but it may stain clothes.
Overall, quite happy with the serum, and I’ll be repurchasing it again.
