Meghan Markle's Red Wine Hot Chocolate Recipe

Did you guys know that Meghan Markle had her own lifestyle blog? She shut it down along with all of her social media accounts after marrying Prince Harry. Just one of the sacrifices you have to make when you marry a prince. You got to do what you got to do, right? On that note, today I wanted to share with you Meghan Markle’s red wine hot chocolate recipe from her old lifestyle blog.

And if you love red wine and hot chocolate, you need to try this recipe, save it, pin it, and send it to your friends. It’s just the perfect comfort drink to have on a cold night after I put the kids to sleep. I will snuggle under a blanket, turn on a show on Netflix (lately I’ve been trying to catch up on Imposters season 2), and sip on my drink.

According to The New York Times, everyone should be drinking red wine hot chocolate because it’s simply delicious. The key to making it is to use real dark chocolate, not cocoa powder. And another thing to keep in mind is that you should heat up the hot chocolate and red wine separately.

When it comes to choosing the wine, you don’t have to go for an expensive bottle. Any wine works but I personally think it tastes better with a Cabernet.

The flavor is rich, chocolatey and boozy.

The original recipe asks for 8 cups of milk and 500g of dark chocolate, but I prefer a bit less dark chocolate and more milk. Adjust the ingredients to your liking.

RED WINE HOT CHOCOLATE RECIPE (the Meghan Markle way):

YOU’LL NEED:

8 cups of milk
500g dark chocolate
1 bottle red wine
2 cinnamon sticks
4 cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon smoky chili powder
marshmallows to decorate (optional)

STEP BY STEP:

  1. In a saucepan, bring the milk to a shimmer. Add the dark chocolate and stir occasionally.
  2. In a separate saucepan, add wine, cinnamon sticks, cloves,  allspice, and chili powder. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  3. Combine the chocolate and wine together.
Pour in a mug & decorate with the marshmallows, maybe sprinkle some cocoa powder. Get creative!

Simple, easy, delicious. Enjoy!
