After a period of careful consideration and extensive research to find the ideal work laptop backpack that not only meets my professional needs but also aligns with my personal style, my choice led me to the Calpak Luka backpack. Having used it for more than a year, I’m eager to provide you with my in-depth review of the Calpak Luka backpack.
I want to mention that the Luka backpack wasn’t my initial choice. I liked it, but the material gave it a slightly sportier and casual look, which wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. I initially preferred a style closer to the Kaya backpack, but the need to accommodate my larger laptop limited my options.
What was I looking for in a work backpack?
The look of the backpack was important to me because I wanted a versatile accessory that could effortlessly match different outfits for everyday use. Equally crucial was its capability to accommodate my 16-inch MacBook Pro, and I soon realized that many laptop backpacks were either too small or designed for smaller laptops.
As I explored the Luka backpack’s online description, it was stated to accommodate laptops up to 15 inches. However, I couldn’t help but notice that the bag’s actual dimensions exceeded this. This led me to send an email to Calpak to ask whether a 16” laptop would fit in the laptop sleeve, and it did. While my laptop does have a snug fit in the sleeve, it doesn’t pose any difficulties when zipping it up. Even after a year of use, the zipper is holding up well.
Great for travel:
I bought the Luka laptop backpack with the intention of using it daily for work, a commitment I’ve upheld. In the past year, I’ve also been traveling, and I must say, this backpack has proven to be an excellent companion for my journeys. It offers ample room and boasts an abundance of interior pockets, making it incredibly practical. What’s more, its waterproof feature and the back opening for luggage have rendered it exceptionally convenient during my travels.
A few things could be better:
While the backpack features a water bottle pocket, it’s worth noting that it doesn’t comfortably accommodate most water bottles. The pocket is somewhat small and becomes even tighter when my laptop is placed inside.
I find the shoe compartment not very useful, to be honest. It’s quite small and can only hold a pair of sandals or slippers, but this takes away space from the inside of the backpack.
Lastly, I do wish the exterior were more durable. Just a few months into using it, I noticed the material began to peel in a few spots, which was quite disappointing. However, it’s worth noting that this is where the warranty came into play.
Warranty:
While Calpak provides a 1-2 year limited warranty for their products, there’s an option to enhance your coverage through Mulberry, which can be selected during the purchase, allowing you to extend your warranty for up to 5 years. I highly recommend considering the Mulberry protection as it covers accidental damage, rips, tears, and offers product replacement and repair services. Personally, I found the warranty to be quite helpful when my backpack started peeling. They promptly replaced it, and I’ve been using the new one for 2 years without any issues.

Would I consider buying this backpack again? Certainly. I appreciate the structured appearance of the Luka backpack, and the material has grown on me over time. It’s also quite easy to maintain as I can simply wipe it clean with a damp cloth to remove any dirt. All in all, it has been a dependable choice.
