Recently I was listening to a podcast, and an Enneagram type came up in the conversation. Huh? Ennea-what? Consequently, the first thing I did was to go on Google and find out everything I can about this personality quiz.
And now when I’m all full of knowledge, I’m going to share what I learned with you. This way you don’t have to do the lengthy research yourself.
Okay, so in a few words, an Enneagram test is a personality quiz that lets you examine and understand your character better.
I’ve always loved quizzes, and back in the day, I took plenty of them. I’d buy every teen magazine that came with a fun quiz, and that will be the first thing I’d do when I open the magazine.
While I didn’t completely identify with all the results, I found out that they have been accurate most of the time.
When I found out about the Enneagram quiz, I was intrigued. The thing is finding out your Enneagram type helps you dig a little bit deeper into your character. It enables you to understand what are the things that motivate you, what are your strengths and weaknesses. Also, I genuinely believe that self-awareness is the key to help you overcome anything that is holding you back from your goals.
WHAT ENNEAGRAM TYPE ARE YOU?
There are nine different types, and according to the Enneagram Institute, it is very common to find a little bit of yourself into all of them. However, one of the types will be the one that you identify with the most. The nine different characters are the perfectionist, the giver, the performer, the romantic, the observer, the loyal skeptic, the epicure, the protector, and the mediator.
The test takes about 10-15minutes and I after I took it I scored type 1 – The Perfectionist. Shortly, I’m always looking to make things better, and nothing is ever good enough. This can be as good as it can be bad. Trying to improve things constantly and striving for perfection while never reaching that endpoint (because nothing is ever perfect enough) can be an exhausting and never-ending cycle.
The more I read about Type 1, the more I identify with it.
I tend to focus my attention on what is wrong and what is right, and I’d label everything as either black or white. Since my mind is very analytical, that helps me find solutions easily and keeps very organized. However, some of my challenges are learning to accept where I am, and what I’ve achieved so far, instead of constantly focusing on what I haven’t done yet.
Final words
Finding out your Enneagram type can help you have a clear perception of your personality, including strengths, weaknesses, doubts. It also allows you to understand how other people see you, which is not always the way we think they do. Knowing that you can choose what to focus on and what to improve. It gives you a good foundation for working on yourself.
Self-awareness is key.
Have you taken the test? What Enneagram type are you?
