What I noticed was that my hair blow dried noticeably smoother than usual and that smoothness actually lasted a couple of days, not just a few hours. The honest difference: it doesn’t add as much shine as people expect from a product called Diamond Sleek. The smoothing and frizz control are real but if you’re specifically chasing that mirror-like, glassy finish Color Wow is known for, you might notice the gap. This one comes up constantly in side-by-side comparisons with Dream Coat and it shares several of the same key ingredients. The name alone tells you what it’s going for and the reviews suggest it gets closer to that glassy, high-shine finish than most alternatives. People who have tried both tend to say the Glaze gets you genuinely close to the Dream Coat experience, especially on the shine front where the Garnier falls slightly short. At $18 it sits between the two price points and the consensus seems to be that it’s one of the more convincing swaps out there.
L’Oréal EverPure Iron Sleek Coat (~$12)
This one has been getting direct comparison reviews on TikTok against the Dream Coat specifically, and the feedback is strong. It’s heat-activated, designed to smooth and seal the hair, and people with frizzy hair in particular keep coming back to it. It’s also easy to find at any drugstore and the price makes it easy to try without overthinking it. The comparison reviews suggest it performs similarly to the Dream Coat for frizz control, though like most of the alternatives the very high-gloss mirror finish is where the original still has an edge.

Color Wow Dream Coat is still on my list, and I genuinely think it’s probably everything people say it is.
