The first time I tried Aperol Spritz was while we were still living in Europe, and I was out to meet a friend. When the waiter came to take our order, my friend ordered an Aperol Spritz and I got the same. Then we started talking while waiting for our drinks. A few minutes later the waiter arrived with two brightly colored orange drinks served in wine glasses. I was intrigued because the spritz looked so refreshing and after tasting it, I loved the citrusy and slightly bitter taste.

Aperol Spritz is a brightly orange wine-based cocktail, just the right combination of bitter and bubbly.

Okay, the only problem with ordering an Aperol Spritz at a bar or restaurant is the sugar. Many places use inexpensive prosecco that is usually high in sugar. So when you make it yourself, I’d suggest choosing a bottle of prosecco that is low in sugar. Your drink will taste a lot better.

Here is everything you need to make the Aperol spritz recipe – prosecco, Aperol, and sparkling or soda water. Then follow the ratio 3:2:1; 3 parts prosecco, 2 parts Aperol, and 1 part sparkling water. What’s great about this aperol spritz recipe is that you can adjust the ingredients to your likings. You don’t really need to follow the recipe to a T.

The spritz pairs well with different cheeses, meats, olives, rustic Italian bread topped with some olive oil and herbs. Yum!

This is also a great cocktail to drink at the pool, so make it in a big pitcher, add a few orange slices and lots of ice, and you are good to go.
