SAIL Amsterdam 2015 is a ship festival that happens once every five years. It started in 1975 and now it’s the largest public event in the world. Tall ships from all over the world visit the city, allowing visitors the chance to view and board them. This year the event was held on August 19-23 and there were more than 600 ships that anchored for 5 days during the event. There were large crowds of people walking around and admiring the ships. During the event, there were music performances, food and drink booths, and lots of fun games and activities for kids (like water ski, how fun!). The event ended with an amazing fireworks show, which unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend. You can find more information about the festival, on their original website – Sail 2015 Amsterdam.
I was planning to sleep in and go to the beach because the weather was perfect, then Giovanni (my husband) mentioned that SAIL Amsterdam 2015 was underway and Sunday was its last day. So we got ready and took the train to Amsterdam. There were so many people, it was hard to move through the crowds, but they had food booths everywhere which made everything better. It was definitely a fun day and I’m glad I was here in the Netherlands to attend the festival.
Here are some pictures from the event, hope you enjoy them and let me know what you think. Have you ever been to the SAIL Amsterdam festival? Is that something you would like to see?
