Olaplex Shampoo and Conditioner Review

Olaplex Shampoo and Conditioner Review

I’m not entirely sure when and where I first heard about Olaplex. But at one point, I realized I saw their products everywhere and was curious. The reviews were terrific. People loved the results; all in all, it seemed too good to be true.

I also remember looking at the numbers No. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 and wondering if I need to have the whole collection. Can I pick just No. 4 and No. 5? Can I use No. 4 but use my conditioner with it? You may think, “Desi, you’re overthinking it,” and you’re right. I was overthinking it until one day, I was washing my hair and realized I was almost out of my shampoo, so I went online and started searching for a new one. The Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo was one of the first recommendations, so I bought it along with the conditioner. I thought I might as well try both of them together and see if they’re worth the hype.

Olaplex treatment review

Hair Background:

I’ve always had thick, coarse hair that also comes with a lot of frizz. It used to be straight, which made things bearable, but in my teenage years, my hair became wavy, and that was the end. It became hard to style, and at that time, I was constantly changing my mind and unable to decide if I wanted to be blonde or black. So I was drastically changing my hair color every 2-3 months, which made my hair extremely dry and damaged. While I’ve been taking better care of my hair these days, I still add highlights, and it still feels dry and frizzy.

I’ve used many different anti-frizz shampoos and conditioners, and the only difference I’ve noticed is that many of these products will make my hair oilier and weigh it down, but it didn’t help as much with my frizz.

The Packaging:

We can’t talk about Olaplex without mentioning anything about its packaging. It’s minimalistic and modern. No bright colors. It just looks great in my bathroom.

Olaplex’s Secret Sauce:

Their patented single ingredient – Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate- repairs damaged hair from the inside out.

The scent:

The scent is very light; it doesn’t bother me at all; I’d say it’s slightly citrusy, maybe grapefruit-y.

Olaplex Review

Olaplex’s Shampoo and Conditioner Review:

I didn’t realize how thick the consistency of these products was at first. The first time I used them, I poured quite a lot in my hand because I’m used to doing that with any other shampoo and conditioner I’ve used in the past; as I said, I do have a lot of hair, and I do need a lot of product usually. The Olaplex’s Bond Maintenance Shampoo created so much lather, which took a long time to wash off. Because this product is so thick and concentrated, you don’t need to use a lot. Keep in mind that less is more. I followed with the conditioner, which felt lightweight and absorbed quickly into my hair.

The first time I used both products, I was impressed, and I’ve continued using them ever since. The way your hair feels and looks afterward is something you have to experience. And you will see the difference, especially if you have damaged hair or if you bleach it.

OLAPLEX No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo review

Worth it?

100% yes. This is my second time purchasing these products, and I love the way my hair looks these days. While you can use the shampoo with your own conditioner, I genuinely believe that these two products work so well together, and give you the best results. And with continuous use, you will notice less frizz and stronger-looking hair. Interestingly enough, the effects of Olaplex’s products are cumulative, so the more you use them, the better your hair gets.

After using Olaplex shampoo and conditioner for a while, I love that I can leave my hair to air-dry, and it doesn’t look as terrible as before. The frizz is less, my hair doesn’t look weighed down, and overall, it seems nourished and hydrated.

What about the price?

Given how thick and concentrated Olaplex’s Bond Maintenance Shampoo and Conditioner are, I do think they’re worth the price. You will use less of the product, which will last you a lot longer than other shampoos and conditioners you’ve previously tried.

The shampoo is $30 for 8.5oz (250ml), and the conditioner is $30 for 8.5oz (250ml). You can also get the travel size for $15 for 3.3oz(100ml), and conditioner for $15 for 3.3oz(100ml).
