At the beginning of the year, I like to sit down and think about what I want the new year to look like, what I want to accomplish, and the goals I want to set for myself. I like to think about these things, but they often end up being thoughts that pass through my head, and shortly after, I forget about them.
One thing that helps me to stick to my goals is to write them down. I like writing them in a new notebook on the first page. This way, every time I use the notebook, I can look at my goals and see where I am with them. I can remind myself of what I’m working towards.
Another thing I like to do is set realistic goals. It can be frustrating to set goals that seem so far away and so unachievable that you feel discouraged even trying to accomplish them.
Below are my goals for 2023. What are your goals? What do you want to achieve or accomplish this year?
My Goals for 2023
Exercise 3-4 times a week
I was very proud of my exercise routine at the beginning of 2022. I was exercising at least 3 times a week, and most weeks even more. Then I got COVID, and I couldn’t make myself exercise AT ALL for about 3 months, which seems like a long time, but I can’t even explain the lack of motivation I had. And that really set the tone for the rest of 2022 for me. I do want to change my exercise routine for 2023. My goal will be to exercise 3-4 times a week for at least 30min. Nothing crazy, but just to get my body moving.
Take The Train More vs. Drive
I started taking the train last year, which reduced my stress levels tremendously. My work is almost 50 miles away, and every time I have to drive, I feel like I’m wasting hours and hours of my life. And the reality is that I am. Driving is great because it allows me to be flexible and leave work when I want, but the 3 hours drive is exhausting and a total waste of time. My plan for 2023 is to take the train daily.
Read 10 Books
I’ve always loved reading. But I also have this thing where if I start a book, I need to finish it, even if I don’t like it just because I started it. For 2023, I’d like to focus on just reading more and leave the books I don’t like behind without feeling guilt. My goal is to read ten books, which doesn’t seem like a lot, but I figured one book a month, and then some books might take me a bit longer, so ten seemed like a reasonable number.
Spend Time With Friends
I go through periods where I crave socialization, but then I need time to recharge. However, I tend to get into this recharge time a bit too much, and I become so comfortable there that I have trouble coming out of it. This year, I’d like to put a little more effort into spending time with my friends.
Buy Less
One of my goals for 2023 is to buy less, especially when it comes to skincare. I absolutely love trying new products, and when I see something new, I immediately want to try it. I’m always open to testing new products and sharing my experience on the blog or Instagram/TikTok. And while I will continue doing that to some extent in 2023, I want to focus on buying less and being more mindful of what I buy.
Blog More
Frankly, I felt a little lost in 2022, especially when trying to manage my time, the commute, the kids, and everything in between. Time just started slipping away, and I became less consistent with my posting here and on other social media. I felt like I was all over the place and didn’t have an actual content plan which made things even more confusing. The main thing I want to focus on in 2023 is blogging more consistently and be more present for Tea Cups & Tulips because I realize how much I enjoy it when I do it and how much I miss it when I don’t.
