After years of loyal service, my Luka backpack had to retire. It had been my go-to for everything—work commutes, errands, and even quick trips. But after so much use, it was time for something new. That’s when I decided to try BÉIS The Expandable Backpack. This review will walk you through my thoughts after a few months of use.
I went with the Maple color, a warm reddish-brown that’s a bit more vibrant than the neutral tones I usually prefer. It’s not exactly the shade I had in mind, but it still looks polished and works well with my daily routine.

Features I Love
The BÉIS The Expandable Backpack has plenty of features to admire. It’s thoughtfully designed, with two zippered pockets in the front—a smaller one for little essentials and a larger one for items you need quick access to. Inside, the bag is spacious enough to hold everything I need, from my 16-inch laptop to notebooks, a planner, snacks, and more. It even has a hidden key leash and a tucked-away water bottle pocket, which I don’t use for a bottle but appreciate as an extra storage option.
A Few Things to Consider
Now for the details: while my 16-inch laptop does fit in the dedicated sleeve, it’s very snug. Getting it in and out takes a bit of effort, so it’s something to keep in mind if you have a larger device. On the plus side, the sleeve is padded, so I don’t worry about my laptop being well-protected.
One thing I miss about the Luka backpack is the side water bottle pocket. I never used it for a bottle, but it was the perfect spot for keeping my lip balm and work key card handy. With the BÉIS, I have to dig into the front pocket for those items, which isn’t as convenient when the bag is on my back.
How It Compares to My Luka Backpack
This wouldn’t be a complete BÉIS The Expandable Backpack review without comparison to my trusty Luka backpack.
The biggest difference between the two is the material. The Luka backpack is soft and squishy, making it feel more casual and easy to carry. The BÉIS, on the other hand, has a more structured and durable feel, which adds to its sturdiness but sacrifices some flexibility.
In terms of capacity, the Luka wins—it holds slightly more than the BÉIS. However, I’ve been able to fit all my essentials in the BÉIS without a problem. The BÉIS also stands out with its two front zippered pockets, which offer more options for organizing than the Luka’s single large pocket. That said, I do miss the Luka’s side pocket for quick and easy access to small items.

Final Thoughts
I hope this BÉIS The Expandable Backpack review helps you decide if it’s the right backpack for you. While I miss some features of my Luka backpack—like the soft material and side pocket—the BÉIS makes up for it with its polished design, functional compartments, and durable structure. It’s slightly smaller, but it still handles my everyday essentials with ease.
If you prefer a softer, more casual backpack with extra room, the Luka might be your style. But if you want something sleek, structured, and perfect for staying organized, the BÉIS is an excellent choice. I’m happy with the upgrade and excited to see how it holds up over time!
