Every summer, I go through the same thing, I open my closet, look around, and immediately feel like I have nothing to wear. It doesn’t matter that I have a few summer dresses I actually love or that I wore half of these outfits just last year. For some reason, as soon as the weather changes, I start thinking I need something new. A new dress, a different pair of sandals, a fresh color I haven’t tried yet. And I used to think that was the solution, just buy something and the problem goes away.
But lately, I’ve been realizing that the issue isn’t that I don’t have enough clothes, it’s that I forget how to see them. Like, I forget how to style them in ways that feel fresh. I already have the pieces. I just need new ideas.
So I recently started scrolling more often through Pinterest for outfit inspo, and half the time, it’s not even about finding something groundbreaking. It’s more like, “Oh wait, I can wear that skirt with a button-up instead of a tee,” or “I’ve never tried sneakers with this dress before.” Little things, like adding a belt or switching up shoes, totally change the vibe.
So this summer, I’m doing things differently. I picked 8 outfit ideas from Pinterest that I can actually recreate with what I already have. I’ll be sharing them below in case you’re also standing in front of your closet thinking the same thing.
8 Pinterest Outfits I’m Recreating This Summer
1. White t-shirt + denim + brown flats + baseball cap
One of the outfits I saved is basically something I’ve already worn a hundred times, white tee, jeans, brown flats. It’s nothing new, just one of those easy combos I always reach for. But in the photo, the girl is wearing it with a baseball cap. And that tiny change? It makes the whole outfit feel cooler and more put-together. I never would’ve thought to add a cap, but now I want to try it.
2. Matching Set
This one made me think of a matching set I bought a couple of years ago. The colors aren’t quite as neutral as this inspo, but I remember being so excited when I first got it. I wore it a few times that summer, once last year, and… not at all this summer. It’s just been sitting in my closet. But now I’m thinking it’s time to pull it back out.
I could wear it with those brown slides I already have, or maybe these tan sandals if I want to dress it up a little. Either way, it’s perfect for a pool day, the beach, or just a cute, easy day outfit. I’m adding it back into rotation. Sharing a few other matching sets below in case you’re into the idea too.
3. Black t-shirt + shorts + gold details
This one feels so simple, but so chic. Just a black t-shirt and black shorts, but the gold details, the tucked-in top, the sunglasses, the hair pulled back, it all makes it look polished without trying too hard. I have a pair of black shorts that are definitely more on the casual side, but I’m thinking they could still work. I’ll just tuck in a black tee, add some gold jewelry, maybe my black sunglasses, and wear my hair up. It’s such an easy outfit, but it looks so put-together. Definitely adding this one to my list.
4. White midi skirt + black top + slides
I actually have a skirt that’s almost the exact same length. Funny thing is, I ordered it thinking it was a maxi, but when it arrived, and I tried it on, it was definitely a midi. I decided to keep it. The problem is… I haven’t really worn it. It just kind of lives in my closet because I never know how to style it.
But this look gave me an idea. I’m going to try it with a sleeveless top or a simple tee, and pair it with my brown slides instead of black. It’s such a clean and easy outfit, perfect for summer, and maybe exactly what I needed to finally wear the skirt.
5. Denim skirt + striped shirt
I love this combo so much. And the best part? I already have a striped button-down and a denim skirt, though mine’s a bit shorter. I don’t think I’ve ever actually worn them together, which is wild because now that I see it, it makes so much sense. Definitely trying this one. Might add simple sandals or slides and keep everything else minimal, just like this look.
6. White t-shirt + jeans
This look is such a good reminder that sometimes the simplest combos are the best. I have a pair of white textured jeans I bought earlier this year. Adding a black belt, sunglasses, and flats, and suddenly it looks super intentional. Definitely trying this one soon.
7. Striped shirt as a jacket
I love everything about the styling here. It’s super simple: a white tank, black shorts, brown belt and slides, but throwing on a striped button-down like a light jacket just pulls it all together. I don’t have a red striped shirt like this one, but I do have a blue and white one, and I think it’ll work just as well. I already have all the other pieces too, so this is an easy one to try. It’s the kind of outfit that looks relaxed but still intentional. Definitely going on my summer outfit list.
8. Casual midi/maxi skirt outfit
I love how easy and laid-back this outfit is just a tank, a flowy skirt, and sneakers. It’s simple but still feels put together. Also another way to style my midi skirt.
9. Tube top + jeans
I have a black tube top that would be perfect for this kind of look—just throw it on with jeans and my brown slides.
10. Sweater as an accessory
I don’t have the exact pieces, but I think I can make this look work. I’ll probably do black shorts instead, a white button-down, and then throw a light sweater over my shoulders. I always think that sweater-over-the-shoulders styling looks so stylish.
